The Slanted Door Serves Modern Vietnamese Food in an Industrial Chic Space on the Strip

The 2014 winner of the James Beard Foundation’s Outstanding Restaurant award now has a home in Las Vegas. The Slanted Door, the Vietnamese restaurant from the JBF’s Best Chef Pacific in 2004 Charles Phan, takes over a corner space at the Forum Shops at Caesars, right in the front on Las Vegas Boulevard.

The restaurant’s San Francisco roots show up in the design of this 8,200-square-foot space with windows facing Las Vegas Boulevard. San Francisco’s Studio Terpeluk designed the industrial chic restaurant that softens its hard edges with lighting. Fumed oak floors and terrazzo tile give the space a sleeker look, while rough textured plaster walls line the dining room. An exposed 40-foot kitchen lets diners watch the chefs in action.

The dining room features marble tables, hunter green leather booths and banquettes, and black leather chairs. A long marble bar at the entrance has a kink in the middle with blackened steel edging the bartop. Over the bar, a painting from San Francisco’s Judy North hangs. Phan uses many of North’s works in his San Francisco restaurants.

Other San Francisco design touches include dishware by Jered’s Pottery, tea cups from MM Clay by MaryMar Keenan, and other pieces from Kyle Minor Design.
