Thinking Outside the Box
As I reflect on the past year at MMclay, I’m feeling quite proud of what we accomplished and am excited for what’s ahead. Running a small creative business in San Francisco requires thinking outside the box and I’m starting to feel like it may just be one of my super powers.
Last year, we expanded beyond producing our six signature dinnerware lines to hosting handbuilding workshops, corporate events, hosting guest chefs for food and plating demos, and participating in San Francisco community events. We also organized fundraisers, hosted art shows, and introduced new products, proving that MMclay isn’t just a place to buy pottery, it’s a hub for creativity, connection, and community. Those happen to be three of my favorite things!
2025 Goals
I want this business to keep moving forward and this year I’m setting goals to ensure that MMclay not only continues to thrive but also evolves in exciting new ways. Not only will I be developing new products and introducing more lighting options, but we will be hosting a series of workshops and community events in San Francisco that go beyond making pottery, offering opportunities to learn from local chefs, painters, floral designers, confectioners, and other inspiring creatives. These experiences are about fostering a creative and thoughtful lifestyle that celebrates artistry, design, and—you got it—community. Plus, we’re thrilled to continue building out our MMclay Airstream shop at The Ranch in Fairfax. Creativity thrives in that space and the magic has just begun out there.
This work comes with plenty of struggles but we are working everyday to overcome the challenges of scale and sustainability by collaborating more with other small businesses, working closely with culinary creatives and interior designers, and broadening our customer base. The truth is, I choose to do this work every day because I believe in the power and importance of what we do.
Most importantly, I want MMclay to continue to represent something bigger, a belief in the value of handmade work, in slowing down to appreciate artistry, and in building a community that uplifts and supports one another. And certainly none of this would be possible without you, our incredible customers and clients who embody this vision by choosing to support small, creative businesses. Thank you all so very much for being a part of this journey.
Here’s to an inspiring year of growth, gratitude, and creativity for all of us!
